Dr. Edward Maupin Ph.D. (IPSB)
A basic training in the ten session structural integration method inspired and developed by Dr. Ida P. Rolf. This study covered both the theory, technique and context of Structural Integration. Dr. Maupin was an early student of Dr. Rolf and a master Rolfer.

Integrative Body Therapy Internship
Carole Osborne R.M.T.
A self directed program supervised by Carole Osborne exploring the subjective component in the body therapy process. Content included hands-on techniques, Gestalt verbal skills, yang style tai chi chu'an, contraindications and assisting Ms. Osborne in all phases of her training programs at IPSB. In class, one-on-one and personal client supervision was incorporated in the learning process. Ms. Osborne is the author of Deep Tissue Sculpting: A Technical and Artistic Manual for Therapeutic Bodywork Practitioners.

Neuro-Muscular Therapy Internship
Kate Jordan R.M.T. (IPSB)
Theory and practice of neuro-muscular therapy including strain/counterstrain techniques, muscle energy, trigger point (spray and stretch and ischemic compression) and assessment and remediation protocols for soft tissue lesions. Specific areas covered included rotator cuff injuries, elbow, wrist, and hand injuries, neck injuries (particularly whiplash), and lower back problems. This program also included an overview of movement re-education techniques based on the work of F. M. Alexander and Irmgard Bartinieff.

Sensory Repatterning
James Stewart (IPSB)
A two and a half year self-directed apprenticeship consisting of formal classes, private tutorials and assisting in classes at IPSB. Sensory Repatterning is based on the work of Dr. Milton Trager with an emphasis on the use of rhythm, vision, sensitivity and movement as media for touch. James Stewart, who specializes in dreams, the imagination and the body, was an early student of Dr. Trager.

The Guild For Structural Integration

Attended a workshop for practitioners of the Ida P. Rolf Method of Structural Integration Emmett Hutchins in 1992. Completed the eight week practitioner phase of Mr. Hutchins basic training in 1993 and from 1994 to 1996 audited and assisted in basic training classes. Completed the six week advanced training with Peter Melchior in 1995, Emmett Hutchins in 1996 and assisted with both instructors in 1997 and 2002. Attended the Structural Awareness movement re-education training with Dr. Dorothy Nolte in 1996. Dr Nolte, Mr. Hutchins and Mr. Melchior were the founding instructors of the Rolf Institute of Structural Integration and are direct successors of Dr. Ida P. Rolf.  Additional hours of personal study with Mr. Hutchins involved supervision in hands on work in the Rolfing® advanced five series from 1996-1999.

Somanautics

A month-long cadaver dissection under the supervision of Todd Garcia director of Somanautics workshops. This dissection was specifically focused on the exploration of the fascial system of both the axial and appendicular regions using the pioneering text written by Edward Singer M.D. in 1935 "Fascia of the Human Body and Their Relation to the Organs They Envelope".

Integral Yoga Hatha Teacher's Training

A month-long, residential, 230 hour basic teacher training program covering the teaching of hatha yoga and meditation. Studies included asana, pranayama, meditation, yogic diet and yoga philosophy. In 2009 I attended a 2 week intensive course in the teaching of meditation.

Conducted a private practice in body therapy, with a focus on Structural Integration, Sensory Repatterning and neuromuscular therapy. Developed a digital imaging and comparison system based on the Macintosh computer used for before and after comparisons of Structural Integration clients.

1994 - Present
The Guild for Structural Integration (GSI)

Developed a computer based system for the digital capture, comparison and analysis of Structural Integration clients for postural comparison.  This system is based on the public domain image processing software NIH Image and the AV Macintosh computer.  This project required the creation of a unique methodology based on current digital image analysis technology and a user interface for its implementation by student and practitioners. Assisted senior instructors in basic and advanced Rolf Method trainings as well as teaching the pre-requisite massage and anatomy course.  Maintained and developed content and structure for the GSI website 2001-present.

Consulted on the implementation of a Macintosh based digital imaging, analysis and comparison system. This involved writing custom software in NIH Image and a manual for system operation as well as hardware configuration, video, lighting and protocol consultation and development.  Volunteer work in the Rolf Institute library and as the Rolf Institute Archivist included the creation of a Microsoft Access database for the library computer, assistance identifying and cataloging rare and antique books from Dr. Ida P. Rolf's personal library and the digitial transfer of audiotape archives of Dr. Rolf's classes from the 1970's.
